One of the most commonly asked questions is, “What should I go to school for? Do I need a degree in criminal justice?” On the surface the answer is, “No.” But…it can also be yes. What does it take to be a cop? Lighting reflexes and the Kung-Fu moves of Bruce Lee? Or maybe an encyclopedia like memory and knowledge of every law and criminal procedure out there? Or is it what Hollywood would have you believe…shooting from moving vehicles and taking on international terrorists all while yelling Yippee Ki Yay? While some of those things help, what makes for a good law enforcement officer is actually much simpler. And more difficult at the same time.
